Build a DIY iPhone Steadicam for Smooth iPhone Video

Build a DIY iPhone Steadicam for Smooth iPhone Video

Build a DIY iPhone Steadicam for Smooth iPhone VideoIf you're shooting professional video, you probably already have a pretty nice camera, but if you're just messing around with the iPhone 4, you can make up for shaky video with an easy, cheap DIY stabilizer.

The quality of the iPhone 4's video is pretty remarkable (you know, considering the fact that it's a phone), but the nature of the device makes the video pretty shaky if you hold it in your hands. We've shown you one or two DIY camera stabilizers in the past, but photographer and blogger Spencer Watson set out to make one for the iPhone. All it takes is a few parts from the local hardware store and skate shop, which will run you about $30. Check out the video above for instructions on how to build it, and the below video for a demonstration. It isn't incredibly smooth, but it's better than holding it in your hands, and with a bit of practice (steadicams aren't magical, after all), you could probably get it to work pretty well.
